Starting Points

Where connecting with FBC Tecumseh begins.

Becoming a member of FBC Tecumseh requires the following:
  1. You must be saved. That means there is a time in your life when you have recognized you are a sinner and accepted Jesus sacrifiice to pay for your sins. You have a personal relationship with Jesus that is genuine.
  2. You must have been scripturally baptized. Scriptural baptism is by full immersion AFTER you have surrendered your life to Jesus.
  3. You must attend our Starting Points course. This course is offered every two months and lasts for 3 consecutive Sundays.
  4. You must read and agree to our church covenant. Every portion of it is covered in our Starting Points class.

From the Pastor

Thank you for considering becoming a part of our family at First Baptist Tecumseh. We are a family of Jesus Followers who are far from perfect, but striving to be more like Him everyday.

Becoming a member of the FBC Tecumseh family comes with some expectations and challenges. We like to say we’re not a spectator church, we’re a serving church. We are stronger, more effective, and more honoring of God when we are functioning together like the body of believers God designed us to be.

Like families, we have disagreements, we sometimes struggle to communicate effectively, BUT we love Jesus, we love each other and we have a common purpose:
Everything we do has this singular purpose in mind. It is a singular purpose because following Jesus means making disciples the way He did and commissioning us to do the same. Our process revolves around this purpose. Our decision-making is for this purpose. It means we don’t always do “traditional” church.

As you go through the Starting Points of being a Jesus Follower who make disciples at FBC Tecumseh, I pray you find you connect with our family, grow in relationship with Jesus, and serve where God leads you.

What's Covered in Starting Points?

The Reason We Are Here
The Good News of the creation, fall, reconciliation, and restoration of mankind through Jesus Christ.

It was hard to put the Gospel into a statement instead of paragraph. Each part of our definition of the Gospel is broken down and further explained through the course.
The Beliefs & Teachings of FBC Tecumseh
In addition to being aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention's Faith & Message 2000, we distinctly hold to and teach the following:

  1. There is one triune God (YHWH) who exists in three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).
  2. The Bible is God's flawless Word.
  3. Salvation is by faith alone through Jesus alone.
  4. Baptism is a Jesus Follower's first act of obedience.
  5. The Lord's Supper is a reverant reminder of Jesus' work on the cross and promise to return for his followers.
How FBC Tecumseh Operates
Beginning with what it means to Southern Baptist, we walk through what the Church is & how we operate as a local church. Some teachings we cover specifically

  1. A church is a local family of Jesus Followers, worshipping, fellowshipping, and serving together.
  2. A church is independent, but cooperative.
  3. A church connects regularly in worship.
  4. A church grows consistently.
  5. A church serves together as a family.
What Being a Member Means
Being a member of FBC Tecumseh is not like being a member of gym or country club. Scripture never gives the idea that church members pay dues, hold down pews, and get served.

We believe in being a sending and serving church, not a stagnant, sitting church. There are biblical expectations for each member to progress is their relationship with Jesus and fulfilling their God-given purpose.

We need you. You are uniquely gifted to be a vital part of our commission to Follow Jesus and Make Disciples by pushing back the darkness in our community.
Our Family Covenant
Covenants are important in the Bible and not to be taken lightly. To take the next step of membership, you must be in agreement with our Church Covenant. Every part of it is covered in Starting Points.

It's ok if you don't agree, we can still be friends. Feel free to ask questions about any of it that you don't understand or have concerns with.

Here's our covenant: FBC Tecumseh Covenant
